Dredging Background of Vietnam

By doing research and analysis from Blackridge, Vietnam is a southeast Asian country with over 97 million people. The dredging industry is an important infrastructure to maintain waterways and ports, and the country of Vietnam has a tropical climate with high levels of rainfall. The projects, like including the Haiphong Port Dredging Project and the Saigon River Dredging Project, are government investment in recent years on majoy transportation hubs in Vietnam country, which aim to improve the Haiphong Port and the Saigon River.

In addition to those government invested dredging projects, the private dredging companies are also playing an important role in Vietnam dredging projects, who offer a range of design, construction, and maintenance services on dredging projects.

The research also shows that, with the stable increasing demand of improved infrastructure, the government and private dredging company are going to continue on the investment on the dredging industry in the coming years. The growing dredging activities in Vietnam will not only help the government and private dredging companies, but also benefit the business activities on transportation and trade, with the help on maintain waterways and ports.

Cutter Suction Dredger

In general, cutter suction dredger is a stationary dredging equipment with cutter device on the top, which can dig into the soil and driven by electric or hydraulic system, excavate the sand, a powered sand dredge pump can suck the soil and flow out through a pipeline.

The cutter suction dredger is capable to all kind of materials, including sand, rock, gravel, mud, ash etc, during the cutter suction dredger operation, it moves around a spud pole by pulling and slacking on the two fore sideline wires, and they are driven by swing winches.

Working Method - Cutter Suction Dredger

The rotating cutter head is attached on the ladder connected with the cutter suction dredger, and the cutter head is powered by hydraulic system or electric motor generated from the diesel engine.

The cutter head lows down by slacking on the ladder winch wires, and it excavates the soil during the dredging process, cutter head is moved by swing (side) winches, form port side to starboard and vise versa.

The swing winches (side winches) are playing an important role on cutter head movement, therefore, the selection on winches not only depends on the type of soil, but also the rotation direction of the cutter head, over cutting rotation in the direction of the swing movement.

Cutter suction dredgers can dredger all kind of soil materials, therefore, cutter suction dredger is the most common selection in dredging equipment, they are highly applied for dredging harbors, channels, reclamation areas and so on. The cutter suction dredger is very useful when the accuracy of the works is important. With long distance of piping, booster pump stations are required, and when suction depth is deep, the ladder submerged dredging pumps are needed.

Vietnam Cutter Suction Dredger - IHC

Vietnam Cutter Suction Dredger - IHC

News on 20th July 2023, Vietnam company: DACINCO investment construction company, who is specialized in construction of road, house, bridge and water system in Vietnam, had a contract with Royal IHC supplying the third Beaver® cutter suction dredger 650 DDSP, after the second cutter suction dredger Beaver® 65, the DACINCO 01 was delivered in June.

Announced from Alexander van den Berg, Director Dredging Standard Modular Vessels at Royal IHC: "The order for this third Beaver® demonstrates DACINCO's satisfaction and we are pleased to be able to support them in the further development of their dredging department with our vessels, equipment and services. The Beaver® 65 DDSP a reliable and fuel efficient cutter suction dredger, which has low maintenance costs and it is extremely productive at all the dredging depths for different output materials. The cutter suction dredger has main features of:

• a diesel directly driven submerged pump (DDSP) that makes it possible to dredge at high-mixture densities

IADC – PIANC dredging conference in Vietnam

Damen opens new service hub in Vietnam

Damen, Dutch dredging company, in order to provide best services in dredging industry in Vietnam market, it has opened its twelfth service hub, located in South-East Asia at Damen Song Cam shipyard in Haiphong, Vietnam. This service hub network can enable Damen dredging company to provide a dedicated resources, including faster delivery, comprehensive maintenance, and other life cycle support services.
Damen Services South-East Asia will start out supporting Damen’s Warranty and Asset Management Design department in Gorinchem, delivering warranty support activities for vessels operating in the region.
