Introduction To Dredging Equipment

Definition of Dredging equipment: The suction dredger is an equipment that can cut, dig, water jet the sand, mixture with the water, pipe, transport, ship the mixture material, and dump a certain amount of laying soil from under water level in a certain of time.

The ability of dredging equipment on soil quantity is customized to different working environment, and the quantity output per unit of time is named Soil (Sand) Production.

A dredger can be deigned in way of hydraulically or mechanically.

A hydraulic dredging equipment is used by the erosive working on a water flow. For example, a sand dredge pump is powered by diesel engine can generate the water flow into dredger suction mouth over a sand bed. The pressured water flow on jet suction dredger can erode the sand bed and form a sand-water mixture into the dredger suction pipe (hose). The mechanical dredger is normally used for cohesiveless soil, such as silt, sand and gravel.

Comparing with jet suction dredger, the cutter suction dredging equipment is digging the sea-bed sand by using cutter, knives, teeth, which is highly applied for cohesive soil, by using a rotating cutter attached on the latter, traction by anchor rod, swinged by the winches, mixture the soil with the water, and the dredge pump is performancing at suction the sand mixture and piping out.

With the dredging equipment, the discharge of the dredged soil can be continuously or discontinuously. The continuously transport to the jet suction dredger, hopper suction dredger and cutter suction dredger is normally using pipeline or conveyor belts. Whereas, the discontinuously can work with grab, ship, car, and the soil can be simply deposited by opening the grab, turning the bucket or opening the bottom doors.

Indonesia Cutter Suction Dredger

The cutter suction dredger is a piece of dredging equipment by using a cutter cutter head devised by hydraulic system or electric system, and the cutter head can excavate the soil from the seabed mixture with the water, a ladder sand dredge pump and/or a board dredge pump can suck the mixture flow and pipe the soil through a pipeline.

1.According to Dredging Today news on May 3, 2024, by Zlatan Hrvacevic, The first Damen CSD600 named Jhoni 58 has been successfully unloaded in Balikpapan, Indonesia,

The cutter suction dredger CSD600 is purchased by PT. Dua Samudera Perkasa, and this dredging equipment is going to be used in operational location in Batulicin.

This Damen CSD600 is appying 250kw on cutter head power, suction dredging capability on 16 meters depth, and the cutter suction dredger is going to conduct river maintenance dredging operations.
The cutter suction dredger CSD600 is apart of a complete dredging package, services including
ship transportation, training of the crew on location as well as dredge spares to facilitate maintenance duties are also included.

2.News From Royal IHC
According to Royal IHC news, the Indonesia dredging company PT. Jhonlin Marine Trans and IHC Dredging sign contract for Beagle® trailing suction hopper dredgers 4 and Beaver® 65 30 January 2024.

Royal IHC signed contract with Indonesia dredging company Jhonlin Marine Trans with the dredging equipment of a Beagle® and a Beaver® cutter suction dredger 65
Jhonlin Marine Trans is the marine subsidiary of Jhonlin Group, one of the largest companies in Indonesia under the ownership of Mr. Samsudin Andi Arsyad. The signing of the contract is an important first step in the collaboration of the two companies to develop the dredging capacity of Jhonlin Marine Trans.

The Beagle® 4 is type of trailing suction hopper dredger, with efficient designed on widely dredging operations, the capacity of Beagle® 4 TSHD is hopper capacity of 4,000 m3 and can dredge 25 metres depth.

Cutter suction dredger is best known as fuel efficiency, low maintenance costs and extreme productivity at all dredging depths,The Beaver® cutter suction dredger 65 has a 650 mm pipe diameter and can dredge to a maximum depth of 18 meters. The Beaver® 65 for Jhonlin will be extended to a maximum dredging depth of 25 meters in Indonesia dredging market.

Both vessels will be delivered from IHC stock. Delivery is expected in mid-2024.
